Construction is progressing on the two projects that started this past Fall. The two projects currently under construction include an Elementary classroom expansion and a transportation facility. The expansion at the Elementary school includes an additional 5 classrooms, a set of restrooms and another tornado hardened hallway. The transportation facility includes covered parking for buses, a wash bay, service bay, restrooms and office and storage area for maintenance and custodial supplies. Future plans include a bus loading and drop off area and additions and renovations to the band ball. Plans are to bid the bus depot in March and bid the band hall additions and renovations this summer with construction to begin in the Fall. Prior to the Fall HISD also completed a paving and parking project behind the football stadium. All of these renovations are being built with general fund balance generated by voter approval of the Tax Ratification Election in August of 2018 which created additional state revenues with no additional increase to the HISD tax rate.
